Christian
Education
We provide diverse
opportunities for nurturing and educating all ages. We were glad
to see how well our programs are doing, but are strengthening our commitments to our children
and adults by working to keep them growing. Our programs include
Sunday School, the Nursery, programs for our youth, and VBS.
Our children's Sunday School is held during worship. The
children return to the sanctuary on Communion Sundays to join their families for
communion. We have a dedicated staff of Sunday School teachers
who are here each week for our children and adults and provide excellent
role models.
For babies and toddlers, we have worked to improve our Nursery program
so parents would feel confident their children had a safe and caring place
to be during worship and other church events. With some notice, our
nursery is available for other church functions which young families
might attend but need childcare.
Care,
Health and Hospitality
Can you take part in our "Angel Tree" project? We have the
names of 30 children of various ages who live in the Imperial County, who are
not part of our congregation and whose parents will not be able to provide gifts
at Christmas for their children. We would like everyone from the church to
help. These are God's children and He is asking for our help. Please
help them have a good Christmas. Angels will be placed on our sanctuary
Christmas Tree in December.
We also sponsor the Guatemala Project.
ABC - Agape
Boomer Cluster Our cluster is a
great group of baby boomers who meet on
the first Monday of each month. Our interests and topics of discussions
are varied as we enjoy fellowship. We are currently involved in a community
project to purchase gun locks. These gun locks will be distributed to
people who want to protect their children and others by using a gun
lock. We are always collecting money to purchase these locks. More information about our project
can be obtained at http://www.consumerfed.org
United
Methodist Women
Methodist Women, under different
names, have been in existence over 100 years and is the largest educated
group of women in the world.
We have one Circle, The Seekers.
We lunch, study and fellowship. The Circle meets the second Monday
of every month at 11:30 a.m.. In February, April, June, September and
October, we have special programs planned by our various Mission
Coordinators. We only meet at 7:30 p.m. when a speaker is unable to meet
with us at 11:30 a.m. We do no meet in July and August.
Our local unit has strong women,
strong church, and it mostly helps women and children
locally and world wide. We pay half the expenses for our nursery.
We donate to the pre-school, My
Favorite Things, Neighborhood House, the Salvation Army, WomanHaven, Wesley Foundation, Clairmont
School of Theology, and buy appliances and other items needed for the church
kitchen.
The United Methodist Women meet the first Tuesday of every
month at 11:30 a.m. for meeting and salad luncheon. Exceptions are October and in December, when they meet at 7:30 p.m.
Prayers
& Squares
“It’s
not about the quilt, it’s all about the prayers.”
By now you
have probably heard about our newest ministry,
Prayers & Squares! We want to
promote prayer through the use of quilts. Once the quilts are sewn, heavy
threads are used to secure the quilt layers together. The threads are tied into
square knots as a silent prayer is said for the need of the recipient. The quilt
may be presented to the recipient without all the knots tied so family, friends
and caregivers can participate and wrap that person in prayers!
We
meet on the second Saturday and third Tuesdays of each month from 9 a.m. -
noon. We are one of many interfaith
churches in our country and around the world who distributes quilts to the sick
or those in need of care. For more information, check their website at http://www.prayerquilt.org
For more photos of Prayers & Squares, visit our FUMCE's online
photo album and see photos of quilts we have made.
